On Wednesday at approximately 12:18 a.m.,, the Police and Fire Departments responded to numerous 911 reports of a serious crash in the area of 834 Route 281.
Police Patrol Officers responded to the scene and found a dark blue 2001 BMW SE M5 severely damaged, on fire, and on its roof. A tree was split in half and a utility pole heavily damaged with live power lines and assorted debris spread over both travel lanes of the roadway
Officers secured the impact area, immediately extinguished the fire, and attempted to assist the lone occupant. Members of the Fire Department assisted in securing and controlling the variety of hazards and in addition, determined that the occupant of the vehicle was deceased.


Preliminary reports indicate that the BMW was travelling eastbound on Route 281 at a high rate of speed and left the roadway striking a utility pole and tree. Witnesses have reported that the vehicle had been travelling eastbound in the westbound lane just prior to the crash.
The Sheriffs Department Crime Scene Investigator arrived at the scene and assisted with photographing the scene and evidence collection.
Police Patrol Force Commander and the Patrol Sergeant assisted at the crash site and Police Crash Reconstruction Officers and Police Detectives are conducting an active follow up investigation.
Utility companies worked overnight to replace the utility pole and restore services. Route 281 was closed and traffic detoured from the time of the crash to 9:30 a.m.. Power has been restored and the roadways are clear.
